[Class 87 (ii)] The sides of the dough-box 4, within which reciprocates the plunger 6, converge inwardly toward each other from the edges of the dough inlet 3, the box sides being curved in crosssection and joining each other to form a continuous curved wall. The plunger is of substantially the same cross-sectional shape as the box. As shown in Fig. 3, this shape is semicircular. The adaptor 8, disposed between the box and the measuring-head 34, is divided by a rib 39 into two channels which lead to two outlets 38 registering with bores 9 in the measuring head. The capacity of the box and adaptor when the plunger is at the end of its stroke may be at least as great and preferably greater than the amount expelled at each stroke, so that each piece of dough receives at least two compressions. The plunger is reciprocated by an electric motor 14 via speedreducer 15, belt 18, crank-shaft 17, rod 21, lever 23 and link 25. The lever 23 is pivoted at its lower end to a block 24 slidable on fixed rods 24c, the block being urged to the left by a compression spring 24a, the setting of which is regulated by means of a screw 24b. The reciprocating knife 5, which cuts off dough fed from the hopper 1 into the box, is operated by the crank-shaft 17 via rod 20, lever 22 (pivoted on block 24) and a link 26 having an adjustable lost-motion connection 27, 30, 31 with the lever, whereby the dough cut-off point may be varied. The dough-piece-receiving conveyer 13 is driven from the speed-reducer 15. The measuring head is driven from the crank-shaft by means of a link 19.
