Abstract

659,014. Packing and wrapping machines. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. July 13, 1949, No. 18509. Convention date, Sept. 21, 1948. [Class 94(i)] [Also in Groups VI and XXVIII] Stuffed tubular casings, e.g. sausages, are made by forming a number of tubes side by side from strips of material 14 and stuffing them as they are formed, after which pairs of sausage lengths are twisted around one another to form links which are shaped to the desired curved formation. The strip material in rolls 14 is pulled over tube formers 15, Fig. 2, and their overlapping edges are supplied with an adhesive from a reservoir 27 and sealed by an electrically heated pressure roller 19. At the same time they are filled by extrusion pressure through nozzles 10. The pair of filled sausage tubes then pass through a gearrotated ring 51, Fig. 6, with internally projecting fingers 54 which rotate the sausages around one another forming a twisted neck resulting in links of sausages which are engaged by studs 34 on an endless conveyer belt 31 which thereby assists in shaping and pulls them through the machine. The sausages then pass to a second conveyer 33 for smoking and/or cooking. Specification 595,797 is referred to.
