Abstract

658,793. Conveyers. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Dec. 3, 1948, No. 31303. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group V] Plastic material, e.g. ice cream, is continuously extruded on to a support 12 from a device 13, and is cut into blocks by a vertically reciprocating framework 17 having a knife 14 carried in a support 26, which support is moved to and fro parallel to the travel of the extruded material, by a link 27 in known manner, at substantially the same rate as that of extrusion of the rod of material 11. The cut blocks 16 pass on to a belt conveyer 28 driven at a greater rate than the rate of extrusion, so as to space out the blocks which are then carried through a freezing chamber 31 (in the case of ice cream) to a transfer station. At this station the blocks are moved on to a conveyer 46 which may be either of the simple belt type or have a series of spaced pushing elements each adapted to forward a block along a feed channel towards, e.g., a wrapping machine. When a pushing element conveyer is used the operation of the conveyer is in timed stepped relationship with the transfer member 43 to receive the blocks.
