[Class 35] [Also in Groups II and VI] A hand- or power-driven food-preparing machine is provided with alternate sets of tools to be inserted as required for e.g. mincing meat, cutting up vegetables, grinding coffee beans, grating or pulping potatoes, extracting juice or oil from fruits. Each operating set comprises e.g. a stationary element to co-operate with a rotated element, the set being insertable in a common barrel or housing 2 so that e.g. the slot 15 in the rotating element becomes coupled to a driving tooth 14 on the drive shaft 12. The housing has a filling socket 6 in which may be placed a hopper funnel 7. The tool-receiving housing may have a unitary gear-box with motor drive, Fig. 3 (not shown), or the gear-box may be incorporated in the motor housing as in Fig. 4 (not shown). There may be more than one discharge outlet, e.g. outlets 35 in the closure cap 36 which is screwed on the machine barrel to secure the working tool unit in position therein. Each set of working tools, e.g. the coffee grinder in Fig. 2, is generally contained in a cup-shaped casing 27 which is slid into the barrel 2 of the machine and secured therein, e.g. by screwed pins 8 or a tongue and groove. Such casing contains a non-rotating grinding cup 32 for co-operation with rotated ribbed grinding cones 39, 41. The casing 27 is provided with an inlet 30 to register with the inlet 6. The coffee is fed along to the grinders by a helical screw 38 on the shaft and like internal ribs in the casing. The finer grinding cone 41 is screwed on to the shaft to hold the other cone 39 in position thereon. A nut 42 adjusts the axial position to determine the fineness of grinding. The juice or oil extractor unit, Fig. 5, can also be slid into the barrel of the same machine so that its core 48 is rotated through the coupling 14, 15. The core 48. has helical grooves co-operating with ribs on a stationary sleeve 50 to press the raw material forward to the outlet 57, the juice in being squeezed out through slots 53 in 50 to run out at outlet 55. An inlet 61 in the outer casing 45 registers with the filling socket 6. A thrust bearing 47 is provided for the rotated core 48, the sleeve being adjusted axially by a nut 56. The outlet between the surfaces 59 and 60 is varied to increase or diminish the pressure on the foodstuff by screwing in or out the regulator 58, which also supports the core 48 against axial movement.
