[Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XL (a)] In a rectifying circuit comprising an ignition a having an exciter electrode e associated with the igniter d in a circuit containing inductance f, ignition is initiated by the operation of a relay ml which interrupts a connection bridging the igniter and exciter electrode, thereby causing the discharge through them of the energy stored in the inductance f. Relay m<SP>1</SP> operates when the current through inductance f drawn through a rectifier h from transformer i reaches a predetermined value. Resistances k and g are selected so that the final excitation current is smaller than the value of the ignition impulse. Relay m<SP>1</SP> may comprise several contact sets in series, with a spark extinction condenser and resistance connected across them, Fig. 2 (not shown). Relay m<SP>1</SP> may be replaced by a switch which rotates synchronously with the A.C. supply to the rectifier to initiate ignition each cycle, Fig. 3 (not shown).
