[Class 83 (iii)] In a bevel-closing chuck in which the jaws c are urged into contact with a tool by means of a screwed cap b, the jaws are slidable in radial slots d in an axially-movable plunger e, and the gripping face of each jaw is formed so as to provide a fulcrum intermediate the length thereof so that when the jaws are in engagement with each other or with a tool, they will be caused to rock about the fulcra into the open or splayed-apart position by means of a rubber band or wire spring h passing through holes, or encircling grooves, in the inner ends of the jaws.
