Abstract
655,330. Grain harvesters. McCONNEL, BOMFORD, Ltd., McCONNEL, F. W., and BOMFORD, D. R. Aug. 31, 1948, No. 22968. [Class 6(iii)] Relates to a harvester of the kind which threshes out the grain from the ears before the stalks of the crop are cut comprising a carriage on which a number of beaters 63 .are mounted to rotate about a transverse horizontal axis. Gathering members 62 are provided which project forwardly of the beater members for guiding the stalks and ears between the beaters. According to the present invention the grain is conveyed to an awner 12 which separates the grain from the husks and means are provided for carrying the grain to an impeller chamber 59. As shown the beaters are so formed that they create an air current which carries the separated grain into a casing 86 where it is carried into a cyclone separator 11 which is open at the top to allow husks and pieces of straw to be blown out into the atmosphere. The grain passes through an opening 87 into the awner 12 which comprises a shaft 91 carrying blades 92 so positioned that they propel the grain to the receiving end. Lugs 93 are provided in the base of the awner, which lugs co-operate with the blades 92 and separate the grain from any unthreshed heads broken from the stalks. The grain is fed to the impeller chamber 59 where a fan 108 delivers the grain through a conduit to a second cyclone separator 13, the lower end of which is open and delivers the grain to a shoot arranged above a funnel where it is bagged, the lighter particles being drawn through a conduit into an impeller chamber 61 by means of a fan 98 and delivered to the atmosphere. A bagging platform 18 is provided and the height of the beaters is adjustable for varying crops. The machine is conected to the rear axle of a tractor and the moving parts are driven from a power take-off pulley 105 on the tractor. Adjustable tines 65 are provided to raise fallen crops.
