Abstract

653,884. Closures for containers. SIMON, J. E. Sept. 7, 1948, No. 23499. [Classes 66 and 125 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXXVI] Means for connecting two members to- gether comprises a plane surface b on one member with a projection c, part at least of which is cylindrical, at right angles thereto, a plane surface on the second member with a cylindrical bore f at right angles thereto, one or more screw threads g<SP>1</SP>, g<SP>11</SP> on one cylindrical form and one or more protuberances h<SP>1</SP>, h<SP>11</SP> on tne other to engage when the projection is rotated in the bore, and one or more projections from the plane surface of one member which engage one or more abutments on the other member to prevent rotation after the members have reached a predetermined relative position, at which position the plane surfaces of the two members are in one plane. Figs. 1, 3, 4 and 8 show embodiments in which the invention is applied to scent bottles to ensure that the bottle and closure are aligned. In Fig. 1 arcuate projections i<SP>1</SP>, i<SP>11</SP> on the stopper engage and abut the ends of arcuate slots j<SP>1</SP>, j<SP>11</SP> in the container, and in Fig. 3 projections l<SP>1</SP>, l<SP>11</SP> engage recesses m<SP>1</SP>, m<SP>11</SP>. In Fig. 4 the bottle o and closure n form a heart shape, the bottle has a dovetail projection p cooperating with the recess q in the closure, and the parts engage by means of the screw thread g<SP>1</SP>, g<SP>11</SP>, the rotation being limited by abutments engaging slots j<SP>1</SP>, j<SP>11</SP>. In Fig. 7 the bottle r and closure s have a raised flower decoration, and rotation is limited by projections on the closure entering arcuate slots u on the bottle, the bottoms of the slots being shaped to the same pitch as the screw thread. The parts may be of glass, plastic, metal &c., and the two parts may or may not be of the same material and colour. The invention may be applied to electrical connections in which the contacting surfaces of the two members are provided with resilient or other electrical contacts.
