Abstract
Smoke filters comprise silica gels, the heat of moistening of which is between 14 and 28 calories per gramme, and the crystals of which have an edge length of between 0.5 and 3mm., preferably between 0.75 and 2 mm. The silica gel contains at least 3 and preferably 10 per cent of water. It may be dried and placed in a pipe bowl or mixed with the clay when forming the pipe bowl and baked. Alternatively, it may be enclosed in a perforated casing formed of an odourless transparent synthetic resin having a warping temperature of above 45 DEG C, e.g. a vinyl plastic, and placed in the smoke passage of a pipe or a cigar or cigarette holder.
