Abstract

Textiles are heat-setted by continuously passing the material through a heating zone and continuously directing high velocity heating gas current of predetermined heat-setting temperature for said material on to the same while travelling through said heating zone and over a length of travel of said material in said heating zone to expose each portion thereof to said heating gas current for 1 to 10 seconds. The heating gas current may be directed on to said material at a velocity of an order of magnitude in excess of 400 feet per minute <PICT:0652545/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0652545/IV (c)/2> while at a predetermined heat-setting temperature of 300-500 DEG F. A device for carrying out the process comprises two rolls 1 and 2 within a housing 3 within which is mounted a branched housing 4 which extends into curved branches 5 and 5a. The inner surfaces 6 and 6a of the ducts 5 and 5a define a heating space above the corresponding surface portions of the rolls 1 and 2 and carry the nozzles 7 and 7a extending longitudinally of the surfaces of these respective rolls. A fan 15 is utilized to force air heated by burners 24 through the open neck 18 and through the nozzle openings 7, 7a, 8 and 8a on to the fabric web 71.
