Abstract

651,979. Making X-ray devices ; powder metallurgy. METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 11, 1948, No. 4033. Convention date, Jan. 18, 1947. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (a)] The target electrode, which forms part of the wall of an X-ray tube and consists of a plate of tungsten or other refractory metal, is joined to a wrought copper plate by a layer of finelydivided copper which has been consolidated under heat and pressure to reduce gas diffusion. The copper powder 8 may be sintered to the wrought copper plate 6 and tungsten anode 9 in a graphite mould 7, which is electrically heated to 1000-1050‹ C. through the watercooled current terminals 11, 12. The assembly is compressed by the graphite plunger 10. The target may seal the end of the extension tube of an X-ray tube as described in Specification 491,477, [Group XL].
