[Class 138 (ii)] In a clothes washing machine having a preferably perforated rotary tub or drum 4 with ridges 7 or the like on its inner periphery, the tub 4 is adjustable by means of a worm gear about an axis which forms an angle with the axis of rotation of the tub whereby the action of the ridges on the wash and therefore the washing effect can be varied by adjustment of the tub to different inclinations. The drum 4 is mounted in a casing 3 which can be turned about a horizontal axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the tub, the worm gearing 5 being actuated by a hand wheel 6. The drum 4 is given a low speed oscillatory motion for washing and is rotated at high speed for drying. An outlet 9 is directed sideways when the tub stands vertically for centrifuging. An outlet 10 can be employed for a continuous rinsing operation with the tub in a horizontal position.
