651,482. Reciprocating pumps. HUMPHREY'S RAILWAYS, Inc. Feb. 29, 1948, No. 6371. Convention date, July 11, 1945. [Class 102(i)] A reciprocating pump suitable for pumping fish carried in water comprises a piston 2 driven from a crankshaft 5 and a rotary valve 16 also driven from the same shaft. The valve is coaxially arranged in a housing 10 and is cylindrical in form and has a projecting stem 19; the inner surface of the valve forms a continuation of the cylinder surface. The valve has a port 17 co-operating with an inlet and outlet in the casing and the trailing edge 18 of the port is sharpened to shear any fish obstructing the opening when the valve closes.
