Abstract

651,467. Goggles. ANGLO-IRANIAN OIL CO., Ltd., and MACLEAN, T. T. Sept. 5, 1947, No. 24540. [Class 97 (i)] Goggles comprise eye-cups each formed with an inwardly-directed annular flange defining an eye opening located in a plane substantially parallel to the plane of an eyepiece which is secured to the eyecup at a small number of positions and is spaced away from the eye-cup so as to leave a substantially uninterrupted space between the eye-piece and the flange whereby there is substantially no obstruction to the passage of air across the inner face of the eye-piece. The goggles shown comprise eyecups 10 provided with resilient beading 11 on their face fitting edges and being interjoined by a strap 19 which passes through vertical slots 18 in the eye cups and has an adjustable buckle. Projecting from the eye-cups, which have annular flanges 12 defining eye openings, are blocks 13 to the flat faces of which are secured, as by metal clips 15 and screws 16, eyepieces 14, the diameter of which is greater than that of the flanges. Moisture condensed in the eye-cups can drain away through sumps 17a and slots 17 in the flanges 12. The eye-pieces and eye-cups may be formed of transparent or translucent plastic material, such as an acrylic resin. The goggles are held on the wearer's head by a flexible strap 21. In another form, the flanges 12 are each secured to an annular ring having a projecting flange on to which is threaded a ring supporting an eyepiece.
