Abstract
649,857. Thermometers. McCASH, J. A: Aug. 13, 1948, No. 21403. [Class 97 (iii)] [Also in Groups XVIII and XXIX] An apparatus for measuring temperature at any point in a liquid, e.g. petroleum, stored in a tank, comprises an insulated sampling vessel having an upper and a lower valve mounted on a common tubular stem movable axially by a control line, the stem containing a thermometer with its scale external to the vessel. The vessel has double walls 1, 2, with the space between evacuated or filled with cotton wool and is lowered into the liquid by the lines 25. By pulling the line 26 the cork valves 11, 10 are opened against a spring 23 to flood the vessel, the liquid being agitated by the stirrer 18 and having its temperature recorded by the thermometer 16 adjustably positioned in the hollowslotted stem 7. The valve 11 has a ported plunger 13 attached to it which slides in the inner wall 2. The valve 10 seats in a ported ring 5 in which slides a perforated plunger 22 attached to a stem extension 9.
