Abstract
648,787. Hatching appliances. FOSTER F., and BLOOMFIELD, C. W. Jan. 24, 1948, No. 2214. [Class 5(ii)] An incubating apparatus comprises a chamber 1 and an open ended container 7 for egg trays rotatably arranged within the chamber and means for supplying conditioned air to the chamber to pass through the container from end to end. As shown, air is drawn in by a motor-driven fan 21 through adjustable apertures and is heated by resistance elements 24. The air is humidified by means of absorbent screens 27 dipping into a water container 25. The upper end of the screen is carried by a chain wound on a spindle 28 so that the amount of exposed screen may be adjusted. The container 7 has a conical duct 13 fitted at one end and extending through an opening in wall 5, a handwheel 15 mounted on the protruding part 14 of the duct serving to rotate the container 7. Egg trays 17 of open construction are supported in the container and the eggs are retained in position by a partition of corrugated form shaped to locate the eggs in rows. Alternatively a series of bars preferably of triangular cross-section are used and are secured to the ends of the tray. In a modification air is heated and humidified in a separate chamber, the humidifying means comprising immersion heaters in an open tank of water. The air is drawn through adjustable openings in the chamber by a fan and passes over the egg trays, an adjustable air outlet being provided in a conical end door.
