'[Classes 64(i) and 123(ii)] [Also in Group XVII] Apparatus for producing super-heated steam and hot water, e.g. for sterilizing and/or washing milk containers, comprises a cold water tank 2 having gravity supply line 3 to a return connection (not shown) from a warm water accumulator 4, a steam drum 9 closely associated with the accumulator 4 and fed by a flash-type steam generator 11 heated by a burner 10 or other means, and a line (not shown) supplying water to the steam generator under control of a valve operated by means responsive to the temperature of the steam, and a conduit 20 connecting the steam drum 9 to a mixing valve 27 which is also connected to a conduit from the cold water tank 2 and to a discharge conduit 28 for supplying steam and/or water to articles to be sterilized and/or washed. Milk churns may be inverted over an upwardly directed nozzle 29 and supported on a hinged stool 30. Water is supplied to the steam generator 11 from the mains or, as shown, from a tank 13, containing cold water under pressure. An insulated casing 33 surrounds the hot-water and steam vessels 4, 9, the steam generator 11, and the burner 10. The Provisional Specification describes an arrangement in which a cylinder for heating water is mounted above a shallow steam-generating drum and a burner. The cylinder and drum both receive cold water from a single tank. The drum is connected to a coiled tube surrounding the cylinder, which is connected at the top and bottom to a hot water storage tank. The cylinder, coil tube, drum and burner may be enclosed by a shell, which may be the storage tank made in annular form.
