Abstract

A bimetallic material comprises a steel backing having an integrally united layer of nickel 0.00025 to 0.001 inches in thickness and a further coating of aluminium or aluminium base alloy 0.020 inches to 0.030 inches in thickness bonded thereto. The aluminium is poured on to the preheated nickel-plated strip and the molten layer of aluminium is quenched at a rate of not less than 200 DEG F per second by means of water-sprays. The material may be used for bearings.
