Abstract

646,119. Chucks. JAHRL, E. V. T. Sept. 24, 1948, No. 25027. [Class 83 (iii)] In a bevel-closing chuck comprising a core 1 having an internal taper to receive a split collet 2, or jaws, tapering at both ends, the outer taper corresponding to the taper of a locking sleeve 4 which is axially movable with respect to the core by means of a rotatable screw-threaded sleeve 3, the sleeve 4 is guided in its axial movement by means of a pin-and-groove 9, 10. The sleeve 3 is rotatable on the core, e.g. by means of ball-bearings 11 which are protected against chips and other impurities by means of sealing members 13. The sleeve 4 is detachably coupled to the collet by a spring ring 17 whereby the collet follows the sleeve when loosened.
