Abstract

645,744. Slitting paper webs. GEE, J. A., and GEE, H. L. Oct. 16, 1948, No. 26939. [Class 31 (i)] Paper-slitting and reeling apparatus is provided in respect of each cutter with a separator adapted during a slitting and reeling operation to dissociate the adjacent edges of the cut paper as it is wound upon core tubes carried by a common mandrel. As shown in Fig. 1, a strip b of paper is passed over a roller a and slit by a cutter wheel c carried on an arm d. Pivoted to the arm d are two brackets j carrying a separator k in the form of a roller having a peripheral flange k<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, which rides on the margins of adjacent reels b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP> of slit paper. A weight n presses the separator against the reels. In a modification, not shown, the separator is in the form of a bevelled roller which depresses the edge of one of the reels.
