Abstract

<PICT:0645575/III/1> In a gas analyser of the type wherein infrared radiation is passed through a pair of gas-filled tubes, one of which contains the test-sample, into a pair of detecting chambers C, Cl separated by a metal diaphragm D and filled with the gaseous constituent to be estimated, such that absorption of a particular infra-red band by the constituent to be detected in the test-sample tube gives rise to a difference in the absorption and therefore temperature and pressure in chambers C, Cl, whereupon the diaphragm deforms and gives rise to capacity changes in relation to an insulated perforated plate E, the single test-sample tube usually employed is replaced by a plurality of axiallyaligned tubes B1, B2, B3 of varying length, the tube of a length appropriate to the concentration range of the constituent to be estimated in the sample gas being used to contain the test-sample and the others being filled with a standard or filter gas. The capacity changes are amplified electronically and measured on a meter calibrated in gas concentration. A rotating shutter F interrupts the radiation and gives rise to pressure pulses in the detecting chambers.
