[Class 120(i)] Mechanism for operating the movement of the nipper jaws of a Heilmann type combing machine is characterized in that an articulated element with a friction roller, operating the movement of at least one of the jaws, is maintained in contact with a cam by a spring attached at one end to the element and at the other end to an adjustable fastening device which is given a movement partly compensating for the movement of the operating friction roller or of the element with its roller in such a manner that the strain on the spring is reduced to a minimum. In Fig. 1, 4 is a lever carrying the lower nipper jaw 2. Movement of this lever is controlled by the cam 12 through a roller 10, adjustable on the lever 8, which is pivoted at 9 and which is connected by a rod 7 to the lever 4. A spring 17 is connected at its upper end to the lever 8 and at its lower end by means of an adjustable fastening member 18 to the lever 14 which is pivoted at 15 and carries at its other end a roller 16 which is also in contact with the cam 12. As the lever 8 moves under the action of the cam, the lever 14 follows up its movement to a degree determined by the shape of the cam 12 such that strain on the spring 17 is limited and excessive fatigue of the spring is prevented. A modification of the mechanism is operated by a torsion spring instead of a tension spring.
