'[Class 120(ii)] In the production or treatment of a yarn or filament wherein the yarn &c. is collected continuously on a rotating receiving package, initially non-uniform yarn &c. is collected in a suction tube fitted near the receiving package and beyond it on that side of the package distant from the source of the yarn &c., and the yarn &c., is not brought into contact with the receiving package until stable operating conditions have been attained. As shown, undrawn continuous filament yarn, e.g. of polyethylene terephthalate, from a supply package is fed through a ring traveller 7 to a suction tube 9 and is then passed through feed rollers 1, 2 and around a heated snubbing pin 3. When the apparatus is running smoothly, the yarn is passed three times around a draw roller 4 and idler 5 and through guide 6. A pivoted arm 16 is then moved so that a guide 15 presses the yarn against a notched entraining disc 13 mounted between the receiving bobbin 10 and its seat on the spindle 11. Movement of the arm 16 also causes spindle 11 to be set in motion. The yarn is caught up by the entraining disc and caused to wrap around bobbin 10, and at the same time is brought into contact with a cutting edge mounted on the end of tube 9, and cut. Undrawn yarn sucked down tube 9, which communicates with an induction pump, is collected in a bin. Instead of using a guide 15, the yarn may be moved over to the entraining disc manually, or the suction tube itself may be moved. Instead of using a separate disc 13, the bobbin may have a grooved or projecting edge. A cap spindle, instead of a ring spindle, may be used.
