Abstract

643,158. Securing fabric wall linings. BOEING AIRCRAFT CO. June 17, 1947, No. 15926. Convention date, June 18, 1946. [Class 20(iv)] Fabric panels for wall linings are held stretched between supports by resiliently interengaging strips, one of which is secured to the support whilst the other detachably clamps the edge portion of the fabric to the fixed strip. One of the strips is formed with a longitudinal C-shaped channel whilst the other has a longitudinal rib shaped to fit into the channel. The edge portion of the panel is stretched over the outer face of the detachable strip and wrapped around its inner face, the wrapped strip then being pressed onto the fixed strip, thus clamping and tautening the fabric. As shown in the Figure, adjoining panels can be mounted to give the appearance of a continuous surface by providing the fixed strip 1, which is secured to a wall support 9, with two upstanding ribs 11 and 12 spaced at such distance apart that when channel strips 21 and 22, enwrapped in the edge portions of the fabric panels 81 and 82, are pressed on to the ribs, the fabric surfaces are brought closely together at a junction 80. The strips 21 and 22 are formed from a resilient material such as a plastic, so that the ribs enter the channels with a snap engagement, the operation pulling the fabric taut and clamping it firmly without injury, whilst allowing it to be easily removed for cleaning purposes.
