[Class 117] A sifter, e.g. for flour, comprises a cylindrical member 10 having a sifter screen member 23 mounted therein, an arcuate slot 17 positioned in the cylindrical wall in a plane substantially parallel with but displaced from the plane of the screen 23, an agitator 30 pivotally mounted at 36 on the screen 23 and having a slot 34 therein extending outwardly from the pivotal mounting 36, a U-shaped handle composed of two relatively stiff parts 42, 45 joined together at their outer ends as by a flexible strip 41, the inner end of one part, e.g. 42 being solidly attached to the cylinder 10 and the inner end of the other part 45 being adjacent the arcuate slot 17 and free to move therealong, and a stiff connector such as a wire 52, extending from the end of part 45 through the slot 17 and then downwardly into the agitator radial slot 34, whereby the agitator is rotated when the handle is squeezed. The parts 42, 45 of the handle are crimped on to the flexible strip 41 and the other end of the part 45 is crimped on to the end of the wire 52. The screen 23 is mounted in the larger end of a funnel 20 which has a reverse folded flange 21 extending outwardly and embracing, so as to hold, a flange of the screen 23, to form a unit therewith. which unit is nested within the cylindrical member 10 with its smaller end protruding from the lower end of the member 10. The fold 21 presses firmly against an abutment 16 such as a circumferential bead formed on the inner surface of member 10.
