Abstract

642,474. Hooks. WARDE, J. W., GRESHAM. A. T., and BRITISH TRANSPORT COMMISSION. Feb. 4, 1948, No. 3256. [Class 89(ii)] ] A lifting hook 6 is connected to a wire rope 3 by means of a fitting 1 serving as a weight and providing a seating for a ball race 4 on which the hook swivels. An end fitting 2 into which the rope is metalled, is screwed in at 11 and locked at 12. The hook 'seat is similarly locked at 9. In modifications either the fitting 2, or the ball race, or both, have spherical seatings and the rope carries a shield to protect the upper seating from ingress of dirt. The fitting 1 may serve as a grease container.
