Abstract
641,760. Fluid-pressure brakes. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and SIMMONS, A. W. March 25, 1948, No. 8772. [Class 103 (i)] A driver's valve for use in fluid-pressure braking systems for railway and like vehicles is characterized in that mechanism is provided for automatically returning the valve from its release to its running position as soon as the auxiliary reservoir pressure has attained its normal running value, so that overcharging of the reservoir is thus prevented. This mechanism comprises a piston having a rod 17 fitted with a roller 20 which bears against a lug 21 projecting from the brake handle boss. The piston 5 is moved outwardly so as to move the handle 1 back from its release to its running position when the poppet valve 7 is opened by the deflection of the diaphragm 8 that takes place when pressure corresponding to that in the auxiliary reservoir acting on the right of the diaphragm exceeds that corresponding to the standard brake pipe pressure acting on the left of the diaphragm.
