Abstract

640,544. Wheel tyres- BRANICK MANUFACTURING CO., Inc. Jan. 16, 1948, No. 1383. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1947. [Class 144 (i)] A device for forcibly separating a tyre-bead from its rim-flange comprises parallel legs each having a foot-portion for insertion between the bead and the flange, a rim-clamping member which is moved towards the feet whereby the latter are inserted between the bead and flange, and means for effecting relative traverse of one of the legs for shifting the bead. As shown, a pair of legs 8 formed with tyreengaging feet 9 are secured to the lower end of a power-cylinder 1, the movable leg 10 being carried by the rod 3 of a spring-loaded piston 2. The rim-clamping member consists of a bracket 28 fitted with a set-screw 29 to engage the rim-base 13, and a pair of arms 27a connected by links 25, 21 to the rod 19 of a spring-loaded piston 17 in a power-cylinder 16. The arms 27a are normally urged-into the rim-engaging position shown in Fig. 2, by a spring-loaded roller 30<SP>1</SP> mounted under the head 21 of the cylinder 1. The operation of the cylinders 1, 16 is controlled by manually-operated valves. In use, the rim 13 and tyre 11 are assembled as shown in Fig. 2 with the rim centred in the devices 27a, 28, and the presser-feet in engagement with the tyre-wall adjacent the bead. The cylinder 16 is then operated to actuate the links 21, 25 whereby the presser feet are forced between the rim flange 12 and the tyre bead, as seen in Fig. 3.
