Abstract

640,509. Automatic voltage control systems; rectifying. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd.. Jan. 16, 1947, No. 1537. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] A rectifier regulating system comprises a transformer 2 to which an A.C. input is applied, and the output from which is rectified by valves 3 and 4 to provide, after smoothing, a D.C. output across terminals 5. If the output voltage across the terminals 5 increases the control electrode of a valve 16 tends to become positive with respect to the cathode, and hence, due to an increase of current flow in resistor 15, the anode tends to become more negative. This causes the control electrodes of valves 3 and 4 to become more negative; hence increasing the voltage drop across each of the valves 3 and 4, and decreasing the voltage at terminals 5. Alternating voltage components, in phase with the alternating supply voltage, are applied to electrodes 3, 4 by means of series circuits 9, 11, 12, and 10, 14, 13.
