Abstract

640,390. Securing knobs on shafts. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., PETERS, W. H., and SHUARD, F'. E. Sept. 19, 1947, No. 25565. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] An extension spindle 1, e.g. a control spindle for a radio receiver, comprises a metal tube split longitudinally at 2 and flattened at 5 opposite the split, one or more apertures 6 being formed near to one end 3 and in or near the flattened region to receive projections 9 on a spindle 7 inserted into the end 3, thereby preventing inadvertent withdrawal of the spindle. As shown, the two apertures 6 have their smaller dimension parallel to the axis of the spindle and are spaced axially apart and centred one on each edge of the end 3. The projections 9 are preferably punched inwardly or outwardly with respect to the axis of the spindle. On assembly, the spindle 7 may widen the slit 2 so that the spindle 1 may engage a knob 10 by a spring action. The knob 10 has an aperture 11, Fig. 4, bounded by a surface 12 to engage the flat 5 and two surfaces 13 inclined to one another and the surface 12, to engage the curved surface of the spindle 1.
