Abstract

640,088. Furniture joints. DUTFIELD, A. E., RAWLINGS, E. J., and RAWLINGS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. March 14, 1946, No. 8031. [Classes 52 (i) and 52 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] A prefabricated framework which may be used for constructing the panels of show cases comprises a set of components consisting of two or more panel-edge-engaging members 2 connectable at an angle to one another by comer-pieces 1 having peg-and-slot push-fit connections therewith, a second group of components 1, 2, and bridging rods 5 for uniting the corner-pieces 1 of spaced groups of components 1, 2 ; the members 2 are L-shaped in section to receive the edges of the panels 7 and have tubular enlargements 3 which serve to strengthen them and also to receive panel retaining elements such as elements 8 made'of rubber or resilient metal. In place of the elements 8, spring members may be secured to the members 2 by screws. As shown, peg-like parts 4 on the corner-pieces 1 are a push-fit in the tubular parts 3 and are secured by screws 9. The rods 5 cover the edges of the panels and are secured to the comer-pieces 1 by screws 11 passing through holes 12 into threaded holes 51. The members 2 may be curved so that the completed structure is either cylindrical or fluted depending on the amount of curvature.
