Abstract

639,597. Toy aeroplanes. UNIREP, Ltd., JENKINS, D. V., PARSBO, E. M., and PARSBO, H. P. June 12, 1948, No. 15887. Addition to 639,546. [Class 4] A toy aeroplane according to the parent Specification comprises an integral tail-plane and rudder assembly 5 fitted into the rear of the fuselage 1, wings 2 and 3 mounted in holders 20 which are hinged together and retained embracing the underside of the fuselage by a resilient band 27, undercarriage legs 4 mounted on the wings and a propeller 8 rotatably mounted in a nose plug 10, all preferably formed chiefly of cellulose acetate mouldings united by heat and pressure. A tailplane 6, Fig. 2, and a rudder 7 of balsa wood, are fixed in mouldings 12, 13 which are secured together by flanges 14. A hook 18 for anchorage of the rubber motor is secured to an extension of the flanges 14. The tail unit 5 is made non-circular to register with the rear end of the fuselage to which it is secured by a loop 19 of resilient material engaging lugs 11 and 16 on the fuselage and tail unit respectively. The wing roots are secured in holders 20; Fig. 6, having parts 21 moulded to conform to the fuselage surface. The holders are hingedly connected by flexible strips 26 beneath the fuselage to which they are held by a resilient band 27 passing over the fuselage and connected to lugs 23 on each holder. Each undercarriage leg. Fig. 8, comprises mouldings 29, 30 formed with a jaw 33 and a web 32 to engage a slot in the leading edge of the wing. A wheel 36 or alternatively a float is mounted at the lower end of each leg. The moulded propeller blades 45, Fig. 9, are disposed in radial holes in a hub comprising dished mouldings 41, 42 and metal caps 46, 47 forming bearings for a spindle 48. Ribs having flat faces are formed on the member 46 for engagement with the bent-over end 9 of the shaft 48 when this shaft is being driven by the rubber motor attached to the hook 49. The propeller is thus enabled to rotate after the driving torque ceases. The nose block 10 is fabricated from mouldings 52 and 53, metal discs 54 and 55, and a balsa wood block 51. Specifications 638,350, [Group VIII], also is referred to.
