Abstract

639,299. Valve generating circuits. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. March 1, 1948, No. 6436. Convention date, March 4, 1947. [Class 40 (vi)] A discharge tube oscillator 12 stabilized by a piezo-electric crystal 15 has an alternating synchronizing voltage applied to its control grid across a circuit containing the crystal. The synchronizing voltage is applied to terminals 7, 8 and is taken from a winding 10 coupled to the anode circuit of an amplifier 9 and applied through switch S 1 across resistance 11. The synchronizing voltage is effectively applied across circuit 14, 15, 29, and the voltage across condenser 14 is applied to the control grid of valve 12 to effect synchronization. The output is taken from a transformer 17 in the anode circuit and fed to a load 16, a glowdischarge tube 18 serving to limit the output voltage. A sample of the synchronizing voltage from a winding 20, and of the oscillator voltage from a winding 21, are fed to a ring modulator 30 to give, across resistance 22, a voltage which is a measure of the phase difference between the two voltages. An adjustable phase-shift network 23 is interposed so that for a desired maximum phase difference between the synchronizing and oscillator voltages the voltage across resistance 22 will cause a valve 24 to become conductive. This causes operation of relay Re<2> to energize an alarm lamp 26 and to move switch S2 to position 1 to put a negative cut-off bias on valve 9 so as to intercept the synchronizing voltage. This causes operation of a relay Re<1> in the anode circuit of valve 9 to move switch 8 1 to. position 1 to connect the output to load resistance 28. Oscillator 12 then runs freely. To resynchronize, switch S2 is moved to position 1 and lamp 26 flashes periodically. Condenser 29 is varied to trim the oscillator frequency until the frequencies are equal as shown by the lamp 26 ceasing to flash. Switch S1 is then moved to position 1.
