Abstract

639,296. Air line oilers. NORGREN CO., C. A. Feb. 23, 1948, No. 5320. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1938. [Class 12 (iii)] In a lubricator for a pneumatically-operated device, comprising a valve body 5 having a passageway 7 for a flow of compressed air and a restriction 8, and an oil bowl 6, an air port 17 containing a ball check valve 15 connects the passageway 7 with the interior of the bowl 6 ahead of the restricted portion 8. A plug 14 screwed into the underside of the body 5 houses the ball valve 15 which is held in its normal open position by a spring 16. A syphon 20 has its lower end 20a immersed in the oil, and extends upwardly into a part 5a of the lubricator body 5 to connect with a chamber 21 in the head 5b of the body. An adjustable needle valve 27 is disposed in the chamber 21, and a passage 22 in a threaded plug 23 communicates with the interior of a sight-feed glass 24 which in turn communicates with a port 25 in the restriction 8. The syphon 20 has a ballcheck valve 31 disposed in a plug 29 which is permanently attached to the body 5. The oil bowl 6, which is preferably of transparent material, has an annular flange 9 engaged by a ring 10 which is secured to the body 5 by means of screws. A filler plug 33 is provided. In operation, the Venturi effect causes oil to flow through the passage 20 to the chamber 23 from which it is metered through passages 22, 25, to the passage 7 where it will be atomized by the flow of air or gas and carried to the pneumatic device to be lubricated. When the plug 33 is removed to replenish the oil in the bowl 6, the ball valve 15 closes preventing a rush of air through the lubricator and out through the filler opening. The ball valve 31 also closes preventing the return of lubricant from the upper part of tube 20. A slight leakage of air past ball valve 15 enables the pressure to build up in the bowl 6 after the filler plug 33 has been replaced.
