638,544. Boxes. VARNEY, J. W. April 20, 1948, Nos. 10868/48 and 9749/49. [Class 18] A box has upstanding corner elements for supporting boxes stacked on top and for providing air space, the corner elements passing through holes 7 in a flanged lid 8. The elements 3 may form part of a separate unit in which case they are carried on a spring frame 1 which enables them to be engaged round the corners of the box. The elements 3 may have pressed out tongues which engage the box and/or lid to prevent their displacement. In alternative forms, triangular section hollow elements may be formed integral with the box walls, as shown at 11, or may be wholly or in part formed of separate sections secured within the box. Filling pieces may be inserted in the hollow elements and bands may encircle them, pressed out tongues on the bands engaging the elements and preventing the lid from rising. The holes 7 assist in ventilating the box.
