[Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] [Also in Group XVIII] An advertising or display device comprises a casing containing a light source and a stand for an article being displayed, wherein either the article is illuminated by light conveyed from inside the casing by transparent plastic rods or the stand itself is made of transparent plastic material and presents its lower end to the light source so that light is conveyed upwards by total internal reflection inside the stand to the article. A display stand 18 comprising two frusto pyramids of multi-coloured transparent plastic material united at the apices is mounted in an aperture in a casing 10 containing a lamp 12..Light is transmitted upwards through the stand and is emitted by its upper frosted surface so as to illuminate from below an article 17 on the stand. The article is also illuminated from above by light emitted from the down-turned frosted ends of two transparent plastic rods 20 which pass through sealed openings in the casing and present their other ends to the lamp. Light may be concentrated on the rod ends by a lens system 23. A bent sheet 14 of transparent plastic material projects from the casing and emits light from its frosted rear surface towards other display matter placed on the casing. A translucent panel 13 which may contain advertising matter is mounted for direct illumination on the front of the casing. A reflector 24 is arranged inside the casing to direct light on to the edge of the sheet 14, or the panel 13, or the ends of the plastic rods or the base of the stand. In a modification a display article is illuminated only from below by its stand and the plastic rods are used to convey light to a further display article remote from the casing.
