Abstract

Sterols or their addition compounds are obtained from mixtures or solutions containing sterols, particularly of cholesterol or its addition compounds from wool-fat alcohols, by treating the initial material with aliphatic compounds containing one or more NH2 groups or their salts, and separating off the addition products thus formed, after which the latter are decomposed, if desired, in order to obtain the free sterols. A suitable material which may be used is urea or a salt thereof. The addition compounds may be separated by the aid of organic solvents such as acetone or isooctane. Detailed examples are given.
