[Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXIV and XXX] Apparatus for feeding sheets to a pattern transfer roll comprises a conveyer for displacing the sheets along a pair of guideways engaging the sheet edges, and relatively short sag-preventing means between the guideways having a downwardly extending cam surface at their end remote from the pattern transfer roll. As shown in Fig. 6, wall-boards, panels, &c. W are slid along guide-rails 99, 100 towards the printing position by one of two chain conveyers 95, 96 (see Group XXX) and are intermediately supported by short ramp-fronted strips 106, 107, Figs. 6 and 8, the rails 99, 100 and strips 106, 107 being laterally adjustable on the pairs of cross-bars 101, 102; pusher lugs 115 are attached to the operative conveyer only, selected according as the etched &c. pattern roll 15, Fig. 3, has the larger or smaller of two possible diameters, the spacing of the chain links to which the lugs 115 are pivoted being equal to or a simple fraction or multiple of the circumference of the roll 15. The bearings of the transfer roll 20 are fixed, those of the roll 15 being movable on guideways 18, while the impression roller 52 is vertically adjustable, along with the conveyers, the rails 99, 100 and strips 106, 107, by four jacks 31, 32 (Fig. 6) and 34 (Fig. 3) simultaneously operated by a hand wheel 36 through chain and bevel gearing, the drive to the jacks 31, 32 including telescopic shafts 48 having universal joints at their ends. The drive to the various components from a single electromotor includes the following features: (a) to synchronize the peripheral pattern roll speed with that of the appropriate conveyer, a shaft geared in 2 : 1 ratio to the pattern roll 15 carries an exchangeable pinion, the gear transmitting the drive thereto being mounted on a bracket movable about the axis of another gear of the train; (b) the transfer roll drive includes a belt passing over a pair of pulleys whose effective diameter is variable by adjustment of the distance between their V-groove sides; (c) the drive to the shaft 131 (Figs. 3 and 6), and thence to the two conveyers, includes a releasable coupling (.see Group XXIV) whereby the pusher lugs 115 may, by the aid of an indicator plate on the frame, be adjusted to enable sheets of different length to receive the centre of the pattern at their centres.
