[Class 23] [Also in Group XIII] A tumbler type drying machine has means controlling the speed of the drum automatically so that it revolves with alternate periods of high and low speeds, the high speeds being such that the clothes do not tumble but cling to the inside surface of the drum. As shown, the machine comprises a casing a in which revolves a perforated drum b driven by a motor f. Air is drawn via a heat exchanger q and heater s through the drum to the revolving filter cylinder k on the suction inlet to the fan m, lint, &c., being removed by a scraper o and the air is discharged via conduit p and heat exchanger q to the atmosphere. The motor f is controlled by a time switch which causes the drum to revolve at high speed for a certain period of time and then at a relatively low speed. The motor may be of a two speed type or alternatively the motor, when running at high speed may have the current switched off, allowing the speed to fall gradually, the current being applied again after an interval.
