Convention date, Jan. 1, [Classes 106(v) and 116] [Also in Groups II and XXIX] In a drink dispenser for mixing and discharging two liquids, the flow of a first liquid under pressure, e.g. carbonated water, effects the release of a predetermined volume of a second liquid, e.g. a flavouring syrup. A valve housing 24, secured in an aperture in the bottom of a double-walled heatinsulated cabinet 10, carries a syrup tank 22 and forms a cylinder in which slides a cup-shaped member 23 having a flanged top 31 and a discharge opening 33. The member 23 is urged into an in- .operative position, Fig. 1, by a relatively strong spring 34 retained by a collar 35 threaded into the housing 24. A measuring receptacle 38, the upper end of which is a sliding fit in the housing 24, has an exteriorly threaded lower end press-fitted into the member 23 and an outlet 40 normally closed by a valve 41 ball-jointed to the base of an inlet valve 53, the latter being normally open to allow syrup from the tank to fill the receptacle. When a manually or electro-magnetically actuated valve 20 is opened, carbonated water under pressure flows through the inlet pipe 19, 17 and the spiral passage formed between the member 23 and the threaded exterior of the receptacle 38 to the discharge opening 33, the force of the water on the flanged top 31 being sufficient to move the member 23 and the receptacle to the operated position, Fig. 2, in which the communication between the syrup tank and the receptacle is closed by the valve 53 under the action of a relatively weak spring 56 and the valve 41 is opened for the syrup in the receptacle to be discharged into a chamber 16 adjacent the discharge opening. A gauze 45 in the chamber 16 ensures adequate mix- .ing of the two liquids.
