633,545. Rolls for paper machines. SPECHT, H. G., and ENCOR CORPORATION. Jan. 22, 1946, No. 2163. [Classes 42 (ii) and 96] [Also in Groups XIII] A non-deflecting, openended, cylindrical roll 14 for a paper machine, e.g. a press-roll, suction-press roll, dandy roll, couch roll, felt guiding or supporting roll, &c. is supported on rollers 34 carried on vertically movable yokes 32 embracing a non-rotatable flexible beam 17 pressurably supported at its ends, and pressures are applied between the beam and yokes by hydraulically operated cylinders, diaphragms or bellows 36 or by a hose. When the beam bends under the applied pressures, the yokes are moved into coaxial positions inside the roll. The rollers 34 may run in an annular track inside the roll 14.
