[Class 100 (i)] In a sheet-feeding mechanism the sheets are separated from the bottom of a pile 12 by means of oscillating suckers 17 which are carried by a stirrup 18 pivoted at 19 to a pair of supports 21 arranged at each side of the magazine 13 and carried by a parallel linkage 24 operated by a cam 31 on a cam-shaft 32 to move the supports 21 towards and away from the pile 12. The suckers 17 are also operable by a cam 33, Fig. 2 (not shown), which moves the stirrup 18 from the position shown in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig. 4, in which the suckers engage the lowermost sheet in a position between a pivoted support 16 and a support 53 which is moved away from the pile as the suckers withdraw the lowermost sheet. To prevent double feed the separated sheet is pierced by one or more needles 37 carried by spring-depressed supports 36 arranged in the suckers, and which are raised by oscillating tappet members 41 so as to pierce the sheet attached to the suckers and move towards the pile any sheet adhering to the separated sheet. The sheets are finally fed by reciprocating grippers, or by feed rollers 46, 47 which are of sectional form so as to permit the suckers to be withdrawn below the periphery of roller 46 when the roller 47 is moved by oscillating levers 48 to engage the roller 46. The support 16 moves down at the same time that the rollers 46 do.
