[Class 33] A method of accelerating the consolidation of clayground or other soil having a low perviousness to water consists in placing bandshaped flexible and porous drains of a material pervious to water in interspaced relation substantally vertically into the ground for drawing pore water upwardly from the ground. To carry out the method a thrust pipe 6 containing the band-shaped drain 20 supplied from a roll 16 over a guide roller 18 is pressed down into the ground and is then pulled up to leave the drain behind it by the agency of a chain 12 driven from a motor 8 by way of a sprocket wheel 10. The drain is secured, before the thrust pipe 6 is pressed down, to the flat lower end thereof, for instance, by means of a sleeve 22 arranged thereon formed by a compressed piece of pipe pinched together at the lower end to secure the band. Said sleeve bears on supporting abutments 24 so that the drain participates in the downwardly directed but not in the upwardly directed movement of the thrust pipe 6. Another length of the drain material 20 is introduced into the thrust pipe 6 when the latter is pulled up. The band is then severed below the lower end of the thrust pipe 6 to be secured to this end anew. A pipe 4 serves as a guide for the thrust pipe 6, said pipe 4 being carried by bracing means on a four-wheel truck 2, on which the motor 8, wheel 10 and supply roll 16 are placed.
