[Class 135] In a tap having a valve member 17 which co-operates with a seating 14a in a detachable nozzle 14 and an associated auxiliary valve 21 which co-operates with an auxiliary seating 22 in the tap body 10 on removal of the nozzle, the valve member is acted on by the inlet pressure tending to close it and is associated with a member such as the flexible diaphragm 19 also acted on by the inlet pressure in a direction to open the valve, the differential areas of the valve member and the diaphragm 19 subject to fluid pressure being such that the tendency of the valve to close is normally overcome except when movement of the member or diaphragm is restrained. The diaphragm 19 is bonded to the valve stem 17a and has a metal ferrule 20 of U-section to reinforce its outer edge. A spigot 17b above a shoulder 17c engages a screwed operating spindle 18 mounted in the cap 13. The valve member has a removable washer 25 of rubber, leather or the like and has a rearward conical extension which forms the auxiliary valve 21. The latter enables the washer 25 to be renewed without cutting off the supply simply by removing the nozzle 14. This nozzle is formed with internal flutes 14c increasing in depth toward the outlet to produce an anti-splash effect. Alternatively, a removable fluted body may be held in the nozzle by an internal shoulder or the like. In a modification, the diaphragm is bonded to a sleeve which is clamped on the valve stem between end sealing rings. In another modification, the diaphragm is replaced by a rubber or like cup washer sliding in the tap body. The sealing diaphragm or cup-washer may be replaced by a metallic bellows and the screwed operating spindle may be replaced by a spring-loaded sliding rod which is pulled upwardly to allow the valve to open.
