Abstract
631,706. Moulding spectacle frames. LEVOY, M. B. July 4, 1947, No. 17645. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups XX and XXII] A spectacle frame is formed by die casting of metal or moulding of plastic a blank having a bridge portion and open split rim-forming portions extending therefrom and subsequently closing the rim-forming portions to produce rims for receiving lenses. Fig. 5 shows a blank formed of metal by die casting or of plastic material by moulding, and comprising a bridge 12 and arms 16, 21 shaped as shown and having a groove 30 either cast thereon or formed subsequently by milling. The frame is completed by bending one or both of the arms with application of heat if desired until the end surfaces abut and a conical projection 32 on the end surface 24 engages a groove 30a on the surface 19, Fig. 13. In this position integral lugs 33, 37 on the arms are in alignment and may receive a lug 45 attached to a temple arm, a pivot pin 47 holding the arms together with the lenses held in the grooves 30. Alternatively the lugs 33 and 37 may be formed so as to abut and the end of the temple formed with two lugs, between which the lugs 33 and 37 are inserted and held by a pivot pin.
