Abstract
631,284. Rontgen-ray apparatus. WEST. INGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 21834. Convention date, March 1, 1939. [Class 98 (i)] In shockproof equipment comprising a casing in which an electron discharge tube such as an X-ray tube and a high-tension transformer are immersed in a cooling and insulating liquid such as oil, the tube is removable and means are provided to change, on such removal, the internal volume of the container to compensate for the volume of the tube and so maintain the level of the oil. As shown, the transformer 9 is enclosed in a casing 5 having a cover 12 hinged at 22 and bearing the discharge tube 15 and a filament transformer 14 connected thereto by wires 17. The transformer 9 is connected -by spring contacts 18 to the tube and the container is filled with oil 19. On pivoting the cover 12 to remove the tube a linkage 13, 27, 28 connected thereto automatically expands a bellows 24 by means of a plunger 26, the bellows compensating the change of volume caused by removal of the tube and maintaining the oil level to keep the two transformer windings covered.
