630,133. Vehicle hoods. WILLYS-OVERLAND MOTORS, Inc. June 14, 1946, No. 17964. Convention date, July 13, 1945. [Class 108 (i)] A road vehicle has a detachable hood of flexible material formed in two parts; a front part 31 which is secured to the windshield frame and the transverse bow 43 of two telescopically mounted struts 36 in order to cover the driver's compartment; and a rear part 32 secured to the bow 43 and also to a bow 44 of two further telescopically mounted struts 39 at the rear of the vehicle to cover the baggage compartment. The transverse bows 43 and 44 are made as separate elements so as to be detachable from the struts 36, 39 which may be stowed, when not in use, between brackets 101, 102 secured to the side of the vehicle. The hood part 32 has side panels 84 that may be rolled up as necessary. A transverse flexible panel 66 separates the driver's and baggage compartments and a panel 91 at the rear has a detachable central part 95 that may also be rolled up. The flexible material is secured to the struts and bows by means of easily releasable spaced fasteners and grommets. A longitudinal member 42, which supports the hood part 31 centrally, and the two transverse bows 43, 44 may be stowed in brackets beneath the windscreen. Specification 607,182 is referred to.
