[Class 40 (ii)] In a motor-driven gramophone the electric motor is supported within a casing, mounted on a base-plate, by elastic sound-damping means and the driving mechanism includes a sounddamping coupling between the driving shaft and the substantially co-axial driven shaft of the turntable. As shown, the motor 3 has a frame 4 which is supported in the casing 2 by coil springs 11 to 14. Other coil or leaf springs, 15 to 18 between the side walls of the casing 2 and the frame 4 hold the motor resiliently in place from the sides. A screw 26 (Fig. 3) passes through the base-plate 1, on which the casing is mounted, and when tightened bears on the motor 3 in order to hold it firmly in place for transport purposes. The shaft of the motor which carries a governor 7 and a worm 6, is supported by the bearing 8 (Fig. 3). The worm 6 meshes with a worm-wheel 9, the shaft of which is supported by the bearing 10 forming part of the frame 4. This shaft carries at its upper end the lower coupling disc 19 of the sound-damping coupling, which disc is provided with three lugs 20. The turntable shaft 21 is supported by a ball-bearing 27 mounted in a seating 28 integral with the base-plate, and carries at its lower end the upper coupling disc 22, the three lugs 23 of which are resiliently coupled to the lower lugs 20 by springs 24 (Fig. 4). The springs 11 to 18 inclusive may be replaced by members of rubber, resin, glasswool or the like.
