Abstract
627,730. Making tubes ; corrugating. METALLSCHLAUCHFABRIK AKT.-GES. Dec. 11, 1946, No. 36633. Convention date, Dec. 27, 1945. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] In a method of making resilient corrugated tubes, preliminary corrugations are formed in a thin walled metal tube by the application of internal pressure by means of a solid resilient material such as rubber, the uncorrugated portion of the tube adjacent the pressure applying means being free to move axially during the application of the pressure, the corrugations being then axially upset while maintaining the inner pressure at least during the first part of the upsetting operation. A rubber ring 6 is compressed beneath a punch 2 to form the initial bulge which is then upset axially by the descent of a guide tube 10. Then the pressure on the ring 6 is released and the corrugation completed by the further lowering of the tube 10. The die 7, which in a modification may be displaceable instead of the tube 10, is then opened, the work-piece 1 lowered until the corrugation fits in a groove 8 in the die, and the process is repeated. The press may be horizontal or vertical. Specification 541,406 is referred to.
