Abstract
627,520. Pulp feed of paper-making machines. MILLSPAUGH, Ltd., and HEYS, R. C. Nov. 29, 1946, No. 35407. [Class 96] Pulp is fed to the wire 16 of a paper-making machine through a distribution box 13 having a passage 19, one side of which is closed by an arc of a perforated suction breast roll 14 having a suction-box 46 covering holes in the roll opposite the upper part of the passage 19. Hydrostatic pressure in the lower part of the passage 19 operates through adjacent holes in the roll 14 and may cause water to flow freely through holes in advance of the suction-box. The other side of the passage 19 has adjustable guide walls 22 and 23 which are also boundaries of an overflow trough 31. The suction-box 46 may have compartments 48, 49 and 50 and pressure may operate between pulp in the passage 19 and water in the compartment 48, the depth of which is controlled by a sluice in the suction line. Pulp in the box 13 may be agitated by blades 41, by steam jets or by pulsating the suction in the compartment 48 by a reciprocating valve in the suction line.
